Load testing workshop with k6 OSS
A hands-on introduction to performance and reliability testing
Pepe Cano
Pepe Cano is a Developer Advocate at Grafana Labs, where he helps developers and engineering teams adopt Grafana and open-source observability technologies through technical and educational content. He was part of the founding engineering and leadership team behind k6 OSS, an open-source load testing tool used by engineering teams around the world.
His work focuses on observability, reliability testing, and developer education, with a strong emphasis on practical, hands-on learning and open-source collaboration.
Pepe lives in the Sierra de Huelva, Spain, where he spends much of his free time with his family practicing outdoor sport activities.

Load testing is often treated as a specialized discipline, but as reliability becomes a shared responsibility across engineering teams, developers increasingly need to validate systems under traffic to prevent production issues.
This hands-on workshop introduces the fundamentals of performance and load testing using k6 OSS. Participants will work with a simple demo application and follow guided exercises to learn how to write and run load tests with k6.
The workshop focuses on learning by doing, using practical scenarios inspired by common performance testing challenges. Along the way, participants will explore core k6 OSS features, learn how to extend k6 to test infrastructure components such as databases, and see how AI-assisted tools can help generate test scenarios and accelerate test creation.
The session is interactive, with dedicated time for questions and discussion, and concludes with additional resources to continue learning after the workshop.
By the end of the session, participants will have a solid understanding of performance testing fundamentals and the practical knowledge needed to start applying load testing in their own projects using an open-source stack.
Target audience Software developers, QA engineers, SREs, and platform engineers interested in performance and load testing or the k6 ecosystem. No prior experience with load testing or k6 is required, although basic programming and testing knowledge is recommended.
Requirements k6 OSS installed locally. A testing environment will be provided. Git and Docker are recommended for running tests against your local setup.
